This park was acquired in one parcel in 1974 from Diane Gibbons for a total cost of
$192,000.
Historical Background
The island was originally identified as one of the "Porpoise Rocks" by the
Wilkes Expedition in 1841. The U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey shows the present name
possibly derived from the shape of the island.
Facilities
1 vault toilet, 1 storage building, 1 bulletin board, 1 mile of trail, 5 regular
campsites and 1 water trail site each having a table and campstove. No drinking
water.
Activities
Primitive camping, picnicking, saltwater fishing, hiking and crabbing. Wildflowers in
bloom April through June.
